Teen Arrested After Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Elderly Couple in Alton, Hampshire

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a devastating house fire in Alton, Hampshire, that claimed the lives of an elderly couple. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, 14 April 2025.

Fatal House Fire on Heron Close, Alton

Emergency services were called to as residential property on Heron Close at approximately 4:00am. Despite the swift response from both police and fire crews, a man in his 90's and a woman in her 80's were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Launch Murder and Arson Investigation

Hampshire Constabulary has since launched a murder investigation and confirmed that the fire is being treated as a suspected arson attack. The teenage suspect remains in custody as officers work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The couple's next of kin have been informed, and an investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the fire and gather all relevant evidence. 

Appeal for Witnesses and Information

Police are urgently appealing to the public for any information that may assist with their inquiries. Authorities are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area between midnight and 5:00am on the night of the fire.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police stated:

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist with our enquiries. Did you witness anyone behaving suspiciously in the are between midnight and 5:00am?"
